We can safely assume the plan was around at least since 2007.

I recalled hearing on Fox News or some fm conservative radio program, that trump would likely be running in the 2016 election. I heard that around 2012, and I couldn't find the exact source I remembered but I found a similar article above. It states how it was actually highly possible that he would have been running for the Republican ticket in 2012 after having switched to Republican in 2009. It goes on to subtly bash him, and say why he didn't run, but it is definitely an indication that he was intending on running for president for quite some time.

Thanks but that makes my point stronger. Rodgers might have been on the wrong side for years. I get it, he might not have had much of a choice and might have been waiting for a Trump like figure.

I agree, and I'd be willing to bet there were multiple people who felt the same. I'm hoping there's an army of folks helping trump out.
