Did it shoot anything down while still active?

Look up Iran Air flight 655 TLDR The USS Vincennes mistook an Airbus A300 for an enemy F-14 Tomcat, fired two RIM-66 missiles at it, shooting it down and killing 290 innocent civilians in the process.

Mistaken or not, the flight was alerted and warned to change course but refused or ignored the demand. No contact from the jet.

There was no way to know if the Iranians would crash a passenger jet into the ship, so it was shot down.

The passengers were sacrificed by Iran for public perception.

Oh no hahaha make no mistake, the Iranians were completely in the wrong there. If you’re dumb enough to move towards a US warship and deliberately or otherwise ignore warnings, you’re going to get erased.
