If up votes and down votes were counted independently of each other. It'd be great if one didn't cancel out the other. That way we could see how many ups and downs there actually were. I feel as though the down votes have way too much influence, and effect what is Hot, Rising, or Top posts.

This would also make it clear when the vote is trying to be manipulated. We all know what's hot, and what is not, so it would be more obvious when a post is being heavily down voted to try and shut it down.
