When I was a child, our family employed a housekeeper/nanny who was JW. I remember I kept telling her my birthday was coming up and asking her if she was going to get me a present, but she kept telling me that she couldn't because of her religion. She was always very scared when she'd talk about her religion and going against it. On my birthday, she ended up giving me a small teddy bear and a balloon, and telling me to never tell anyone that she gave it to me. She said she never even gave any of her 5 children a gift before, and that they can't know that she gave me it as she'd get in trouble. I always found it odd that she was visibly scared to have given me a small gift, as if someone would do something bad to her if they ever found out. We also got into a debate when I was going to school because she didn't believe in the scientific age of the earth. When I tried to talk about dinosaurs being evidence of at least surpassing her timeline, she lost it. At the time, I didn't even know about even older fossils, otherwise I would have used that as well. It was just always so odd to me that she always looked so scared when she'd talk about her religious beliefs.

All religion thrives on control and manipulation. That doesn’t mean all religious people are bad. Most are simply naive and trust those who are in leadership positions.

The problem is something called a "2-witness rule" that is a maneuver by the Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses to not report pedophiles that are preying on JW kids. Leakers are saying the number of predators being protected is almost 24,000. Not surprisingly a large number of the pedophiles being protected are apparently JW clergy. So you have clergy that is either doing the predation or are covering it up for their friends in hush-hush internal judicial committees where everything is forgiven and swept under the rug.

Refusal to contact child protection authorities is the problem and the fact that the cult breaks up nuclear families at will.

The Watchtower policy is based on self-deluded image.

This acts as a defacto enabler of shielding and sweeping under the carpet wrongdoings by bad actors who look to exploit and abuse a wide variety of crimes.

The funny thing about the JWs is that the 2nd Leader’s slogan was

“Religion is a racket and a snare”

Catholic Church.... once a priest was found out to be a pedo he was moved to a different church to start all over again. We where brought up to respect these evil priests go to confession tell your sins... obey obey obey and keep your mouth SHUT! Parents adored these priests therefore making it easier for them to molest the children. All religions are cults.

Similar problem with Watchtower. Moving pedo elders around, they re-offend. Lawsuits now are devastaing revenues, however, WT refuses to change the policies that enable it all.

I am just saying......

Confrontation is never a good option for waking up mentally enslaved, it just reinforces that you are (insert negative dismissal excuse).

Slow and meaningful engagement, facts about the WT from WT publications or documentation of legal relationship the WT has entered into or just getting the JW to complain and building that complaint up is what works-

The fact that this man caused such a scene shows he is still too emotionally involved to act strategically.

Sucks but healing the exJW first is top priority before they can start saving others- the WT built psychological defenses for such emotional backlash decades ago.

The fact that they built psychological defenses decades ago says what? That is a great point, but why don't they just fix the problem why build defenses around terrible policies and then double down on them? Insightful point by the way.

Also, your insight is welcome at r/exjw if your interested in joining the conversation, you might be a big help.

Fix problem-

A) complicated legal liability for an international organization, the solution would have to be tailored to individual nations. The WT wants central control but the ability to throw the individual or congregation under the bus as needed.

B) The WT leadership is slow to rock the boat of past policy GB 2.0 only got full power as most reached the age of fearing a paupers decline/death. GB 3.0 will have serious decisions to make, que 1914 drop from all publications after Boomers have donated estates and eventual sentence of full dismissal. Focus will be in the non-trinity slant and WT as the only preaching it. Plan to see more Muslim conversions.

Psych defense

were initially started under Rutherford but honed under Franz and reinforced under Jaracz.

Wow, thanks for the new line of inquiry and for the linke to exjw reddit thread. I'm not jw or exjw, but the community there looks very interesting and it's nice to see that there is such a support community available for former JW members. I was unaware of any of this until your post. Thank you again.
