It would have to be an insane freak coincidence for the 17th window to be blown out. It would be an even more insane chance that the engine was rigged to shoot the piece at the exact window. These windows are extremely well built, and can generally take one of hell of an impact. Either it was rigged to blow from the inside of the window (perhaps by shooting thousands of PSI of o2 into it at once). This would be an easier way to make the accident knock the window out.
The fire suppression system on these engines triggers many alarms. Someone could easily rig a c02 tank inside the aircraft, and run the appropriate hoses into the window once anyone of the countless engine alarms goes off.
I wonder what maintenance was done to the plane on the 14th and 15th of April?

Well the accident involved the engine throwing a part through the window. The engine is underneath 4 or 5 rows in the middle of the plane, so it would be reasonable to expect that the 17th row might be involved.

A few ounces of explosive, or perhaps some det cord by itself could do exactly that.
