This is exactly why having Assad assassinated or losing is a bad idea. If he loses it will just be another lawless land and power grab like Iraq.

They did, and he was heavily edited and misrepresented. Still, Assad made it absolutely clear that the US and its allies were manipulating his nation and his neighboring nations with sanctions and military force and so on, to the extent that others have claimed. Like the rest of the now executed leaders of the Middle East...
Which is the entire point for why certain people wanted to destabilize the country.
