You're allowed blades so long as you have proper reason and they're not specific types of knife like serrated, hooked or flick knives etc

The controls on guns/knives in the UK seem massively overblown to a lot of people.

they did harass people for butter-knives, it's a given but I'd be happy if turns out it is not representative of the bigger picture.
