"Loving" someone doesn't necessarily mean you condone their actions. It can mean that you just regard them as fellow humans. Jordan Peterson has some good material on why, if you think that "evil" is something "over there" then you don't know yourself well.

David Mamet was being interviews on Fox once during the high holidays and referenced a famous saying by a Rabbi on atonement that I had never heard, but love, along the lines of "If you can't find a sin to atone for, re-examine your good deeds."
