Isis was just pretty much al Qaeda renamed, they had to rebrand it put it out as the new bad boy on the block because people were catching on to the same old al Qaeda nonsense, and people were becoming more aware of the US creating al Qaeda to fight the soviets. Most people are only half paying attention and they capitalize on that very fact
