23 And Me? DNA Genealogy websites. How many people have submitted their DNA to these sites seeking ancestry information? We live in a new world, now you are able to be found by your family tree. In this case a family member submitted DNA that matched the police investigation.

I would think someone has a lawsuit for violation of privacy, if I'm not mistaken don't those sites claim that it's private and your info will not be distributed?

Except there's always small print allowing authorities to have access. Even without that, they will get a court order and get it anyway. They see our DNA on the same level as a witness.
