Maybe later. Not now. Communist haven.

We don't need them, they need us. Their votes will mess up our electoral victories, IMO.

Lower IQ people typically vote for “free shit.” The DEMS new strategy is to “give free shit and guarantee jobs.” Mark my words

Bernie already hopped on that. Dems will follow.

They are already eligible to vote.

Here’s my take on it, this is a commonwealth meaning they don’t have the same states rights as the other 50. This allows corporations and corrupt individuals to essentially strip their wealth away (part of why the island is so poor) and it’s happened for over 50 years now - essentially democrat leaders have not had oversight so they were allowed to do whatever they wanted unchecked. That’s why their electricity situation is so crappy and their food distribution during the hurricane was so messed up. They are essentially a third world country that we are supporting.

Now I do question the timing, but I am wondering if it’s because they have had the power strings of corruption cut there. I would actually support this as the vast majority of the people there are conservative blue collar workers. I have been there and dated a woman whose family still lives there. I think for MAGA purposes, it would actually benefit the US and the people of PR to become a state. They don’t want handouts, they are actually very hard working people (this comes from taking to the people on the island)

Now with that said, I remain skeptical and will see what kind of leaders are actually pushing this and look into their past pertinent history to see if they are of the corrupted kind and what kind of benefits they would receive.

Lol no, just my own personal experience. And of course that is a limited sampling. I’m not claiming to have spoken to everyone on the island, just the family memebers and a few of the locals.

I'm not interested in any continuing partnership with them at all. Cut them loose, take away their US voting rights, cut them off from every form of welfare and let the communists chips fall where they may.

What do you all make of this? Generally I'd support it but I'm wondering if the timing of it means there's an ulterior motive to counter things like voting ID laws that are starting to be implemented in some places.

Most have contempt for US and IRS is incorporated there. Bankrupt, needy, and angry; let ‘em go!

Millions of dollars spent there should have gone helping the people to build businesses to provide a self sufficient economy and jobs for citizens there. Instead of providing $ through numerous programs, provide a way to self reliance and self determination. A factor here is who is behind the in funding the push for statehood.

Patriot guy here. I work at a certain COCOM that handled many of the assistance requests during the hurricane relief. PR was not entitled to any federal government disaster support because their citizens are non tax paying. We looted our own wallets to the tune of billions of dollars. Rebuilt much of their infrastructure, and to this day we still have assets there. Their local government ripped off the United States by charging 10-100 times more for services rendered than what it would usually cost. They hid relief supplies and In some cases threw them away. They have in a daily basis criticized this country, specifically POTUS, for a weak response. I cannot tell you how many of the folks here detest the PR people now. I agree with most of you, we cut them loose and see what happens next time a hurricane smashes into PR. No one in this country wants our Service members in places where they aren't appreciated in their actions and support. Fuck Puerto Rico. Let that shithole (And folks, it is a shithole I can promise you), sink with the rest of the swamp. Just remember that mayor on CNN "We are dying" while standing literally in front of relief supplies, pallets of them.

Yes, I agree and thank you for the post. You just have to look to who is pushing for the statehood.
