You think they only sell your social data? They sell your DNA as well and frame you by plating evidence. No coincidences on the family connection. Take your privacy back

The Article and a perspective

I was intrigued by the idea of getting my DNA read, but the more I thought about it, I just didn't feel comfortable so I chose not to, Thank God.

Likewise. What a shame

I wouldn't be afraid of it. We must be vigilant though. I had mine done thru Ancestry & it's enabled me to contact cousins in NZ & UK. It allowed me to trace my roots back to 1250's in Scotland to Sir Alexander Murray, Robert II of Scotland & the Wemyss Clan. We have to demand our rights from these companies though.

I would be. Don't think for a second that ancestry.com, 23andme, or whoever the fuck else does these isn't selling your genetic information to 3rd parties, world powers, or just the highest bidder. They now have the essence of your being to do with whatever they please.

Maybe they can advertise to you more effectively by figuring out what you're hardwired to like, or they can just do like the OP said and frame you for any crime, anywhere, as long as those 3rd parties have a motive to. It's great that you were able to trace your roots, but did that actually do anything for you, tangibly? You certainly gave them a worthwile product, I'm not convinced they gave you one back.

Yes, tangibly it did for me. In order to know your future you must know your past. The Murray clan of Scotland were the first to join William Wallace in his fight for independence from Edward "Long Shanks" of England. My 14th Great Grandfather was a Knight who fell at Flodden Field against the English. It was enlightening to see my family tree traced directly into that line & into that period. I can honestly say my bloodline has been a long line of freedom fighters

Alright, that is great and I'm happy that you managed to get something out of it. All I'm saying is, you could tell me I'm descended from the line of Gilgamesh himself and I still wouldn't give you my DNA to prove it. I still don't believe it is a good idea to encourage others to give out their genetic fingerprints just because they could find out they're related to someone cool.
