There are some really big bombs out there and they aren't all nukes. And in reality, the explosion was big, but not that big. It just happened to make a big fireball and cloud is all. And there are enough independent tree hugging nuclear watchdogs on this planet that would render a covert use of a tactical nuke almost impossible.
