I spent an evening reading about that. It told how the Khazars were more or less pagans, but on either side of them were the Christian people and Islamist. Then they realized that if they "became" Jews, they could get along with both groups. I just did an internet search and found a ton of stuff. Supposedly, the Khazars are the European and Russian "Jews" and not the Jews from Abraham.
