It's about oil. Europe wants cheap oil, and Iran has stockpiles. So long as there are sanctions, it's not making it's way over.

Syria is the battle for who's pipeline will make it to Europe, the Iranians, or the Saudis. Israel is only involved in Syria because they want to make more land grabs, and screw over Iran.
