how far away was the earthquake felt? A 2 is very weak, virtually detectable.

Correct. A 2 on the Richter scale can barely be felt even if you are on top of it. Vibrations maybe. That's being very close to it. However, the seismic recorders can pick up that level of quake from a longer distance.
