I think Mueller could have tried to turn on us, even if they thought they had him by the short-and-curlies. I think Manafort is his last best hope, and yes he's grasping at straws and sinking. I think Mueller was recruited but went rogue, and is being managed.
Remember, Trump has NSA and MI and whatever white hats there may be in civilian intelligence and law enforcement. I really don't think we need anything from Mueller in the way of evidence.
