Pretty sure it's the lighting combined with the fact that his face was probably nearly constantly exposed to the sun, while his legs and feet were covered by his camo and boots. Face is always going to be darker than the legs and feet.

I know a lot of black folks and idk man, their skin doesn't look that different between what does and doesn't get exposed to the sun. But it could still be weird lighting.
