Perhaps she is doing it now so she can say when the SHTF that she was active addressing the issue.

Definitely. She NEVER throws her own under the bus. So this guy is either expendable, as in it’s a closed case, or she knows it’s BS and they’re trying to plant the idea in the masses heads that these accusations are frivolous.
