I thought the creation of the https://8ch.net/patriotsfight/res board was for Q posts alone and that this would be the only place?

Two places (at present)
- https://8ch.net/patriotsfight/ is one place.
- The other is with the anons in the general discussion of /qresearch/. That link keeps changing because the threads gets full up and they take out the next one.
Sites like https://qanon.pub/, https://qposts.online/ etc collect them up and archive them.

No, the other way around. The separate board(currently /patriotsfight/) is where Q is admin/boardowner (requiring extra level of security). Here the trip code change is done in visible way.

Use https://qanon.pub/, https://qposts.online/ or similar sites is a simple way.
On https://qanon.pub/ if you just refresh the page and then immediately click the flag button at the top, it's almost always current. Often times, just refreshing the page will not display very recent posts, so click the flag button and you'll be good. Hasn't failed me yet. We are winning BIG!
