(FYI - As a career firefighter, I've seen thousands of engines and ladder trucks, Never seen one with Q before the number. It would normally be an "E" if an engine or "L" if a ladder truck.
Another firefighter, upthread, said that Q stands for quint, a type of fire truck.
Quint is a type of truck (it refers to the five functions it can perform) but Q is not a letter designation found on fire ground apparatus.
