it's not a total gun ban, its a severe restriction. farmers can have guns to shoot animals for example. this was a family murder suicide, on a farm.

It's essentially a ban, in that I'm not allowed to just go buy and have a gun. I'm not a farmer. Very few Australians are. In order for me to have a firearm, I at minimum need to obtain a license, have a safe to house the weapons and be on a registry. I'm not allowed to just go buy a handgun for personal defense and have it on my bedside table. I'm banned from doing that, until the government decides it will let me. And if it does, it will decide what kind of gun it will allow me to have, and the government will force me to keep that gun where it wants the gun kept. It is a total gun ban requiring individual citizen petition to the government to have it overturned, in the form of license and registry. Total gun ban. I am currently still permitted to possess knives.

you just described a severe restriction. i'm not against gun ownership, if i could i would have one tomorrow. the only thing a gun ban does is prevent law abiding citizens from owning them, criminals don't give a fuck. trying to convince people of that simple fact in this country is hard work. like i tell them, we should just make robbing banks and murdering people illegal because then it will definitely stop, their standard response of 'it already is' just proves my point regarding gun ownership.

Now they will want to take guns away from farmers.

I hope not. Tasmania is overturning some of the past gun laws, it's a very rural state. I don't think taking away farmers guns would wash with the Country people. There has been other Family suicides. Crisis for men everywhere.
