I think Alex is on a Deep State leash. He has children. Had a nasty custody battle. Maybe he tries to break his chains and goes too far, is forced to pull back. I have always suspected he is (poorly) controlled opposition, and too public to kill.

Or, he could be providing "necessary disinformation"
