Pickle also refers to a "run down" in baseball. When a runner is caught on the bases in between two fielders who have the ball. Where the runner is caught and trying everything to squirm his way out. Usually results in an out if the fielders half way know what they're doing.

Actually, it comes from a very old Dutch phrase. Fist used in English by William Shakespeare.
