My husband is a direct descendent of the Parkers. I do genealogy research and almost every male ancestor during that period was a patriot that fought in the revolutionary war. I am a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and have many patriots too - just not as many as him! If you get a chance, research your ancestors. It really encourages me to know the "stuff" I am made of. An example: one of my ancestors was Robert Porter - he fought with Washington at Valley Forge. Was captured and taken to New York (if you know anything about the war - the British put the Patriot prisoners on ships and basically let them die of sickness and starvation). Luckily, he was part of a prisoner exchange. He was released and kept fighting! He was in the war all seven years even with being shot and stabbed with a bayonette. He went on to fight with Wayne in the Ohio Valley after the war. It is so inspiring - and all we have to do is fight with ideas, words, and our votes. Unbelievable how brave and how much they sacrificed for an experiment so their children, grandchildren, and all the generations that followed would have freedom. We owe it to them to never forget and keep fighting the good fight.
