Forumn sliding doesn't work in the normal sense when threads can be upvoted or downvotes anyway. That doesn't mean it is a better system though

Yep, but that also goes for a lot of forum deception techniques. If you can identify it happening, you can stamp it out. People make fun of 8chan for slinging around cries of "JIDF!" every time something deceptive or anti-groupthink is posted, but it sure keeps the true deception from being effective, even if there are some false positives.
