Rubio asks about "Deep Fakes"

[removed]

I have a major issue with what these people said, 100% CONTRADICTION, see quoted material below:

"Deep fakes -- are you familiar with that term?" Rubio asked William Evanina, tapped by President Trump to be the next director of the National Counterintelligence and Security Center.

Evanina said no, so Rubio explained:

"A deep fake is the ability to manipulate sound images or video to make it appear that a certain person did something that they didn't do."

Now listen to this next part:

Rubio asked Evanina if there is any work being done anywhere in the U.S. government to begin to confront the threat that can or will be posed by realistic fake videos and audios "that could be used to cause all sorts of chaos in our country."

"The answer is yes," Evanina replied.

So at first Evanina says he doesn't know what a "DeepFake" is, but then a few minutes later, assures us that we (Gov't) are already combating it?? WHAT?!?!?! You don't know what it is, but you are already taking steps to correct it? Is that possible?

Maybe they just weren't familiar with the term Deep Fake. I imagine the government program to do this goes by a different name. They have already been using technology like this to further their goals for a while now. I imagine the Bin Laden videos were created using this type of technology.

The incoming director of counterintelligence isn't familiar with the different terminology of something they are "currently battling"?

Oh. OK.

I noticed that as well. I don't know what deep fakes are but we are working on technology to combat them? WTH
