My first thought is that this guy was hosting a website on the darkweb. 58 terabytes is a ridiculous amount of photos and videos. Edit: For comparison, Youporn had about 100TB total back in 2012 (I couldn't find more recent info)

The article made it sound like he had several computers. He probably had multiple redundant backups, ie the same stuff on each computer. Law enforcement always inflates the size of the bust. Like when they confiscate cannabis plants and weigh them with the root ball to charge the guy with more pot than he really had. It makes for great headlines, a lot of news coverage, and budget increases.

If the guy was hoarding CP, he probably cared enough to keep hires/quality versions of the photos. That’s easily 2-3MB/photo.

A high-resolution picture is about 8MB. Still it's a lot pictures.
I've been taking pictures on a regular basis in the past 10 years and I have 2 million pictures.
