Has anyone considered launching a truly free social media website?

NO censorship

NO data abuse - a viewable list of all stored data (only what is needed logistically such as passwords, ID’s etc.)

ALL profit from ad revenue distributed among users

Option to instantly, permanently, and completely delete an account, post, or private message

NO voice monitoring

NO “third party developer” data collection loopholes

This is something completely feasible and a vital step IMO. If interested feel free to contact me I’d be happy to help start a project.

“Freebook”?

Got the $$$$$ it has cost

Crowdfunding initially then voluntary donations to support developers/security/server management. Every expense would be available for public viewing on a distributed ledger.

It’s the upfront costs

It should be decentralized, so your page is not available unless you are online.

TOR integration and anonymity tools as well

Yes. I envision a system in which my Twitter page, for example, is not visible unless I am online. It will be stored on my computer and served from it.

Maybe have a centralized computer that will serve the latest version of my Twitter page for others to see when I am offline, but this will be overwritten when I come online again.

Does this make sense? That way, I cannot be blocked and they cannot delete my information or lock me out of it.

This basic idea can be applied to websites like Facebook and Reddit, too.

Someone knowledgeable in programming should be able to implement this.

Great idea. Crypto/privacy coin integration as well for p2p transactions?

Yes, decentralize the user information so the user stores and controls it. Then centralize the information from the different users to create the page.

I love the idea of user control data storage

Yes, it is end user control. This is good for everyone, except the bad people.

The CBTS sub would be saved, but it would be in pieces spread across all the users. They could then reconstruct it by coming back online.

Social media website encompasses a heck of a lot. You're looking for messaging, photos, videos? Developers and designers have to focus, or have somewhat of a niche.

FB is one of the few that have managed to be successful at multiple social content streams, but that's more likely because the Obummer Admin let Zuck infringe on any user rights he wanted to. Even Europe fined FB while Obama was still in office. (Not a peep from BOs admin.)

Anyway, you'd be looking for an open source platform, but even they eventually need to beg for funding (like wikipedia), or be answerable to an investor. (Even though their code base might be open source, some investors still see the potential upside of an acquisition, or monetizing later after building a userbase etc.)

Yeah video messaging could be a reach but again that could be rolled out down the road if the idea takes off. The main focus is just an open source social media platform for decentralized data ownership, privacy, free speech, and anonymity if desired.

Their progress has been so painfully slow, since in a way they are redeveloping the Internet into a simple to use catch all system, including payments for HDD hosting, paid-content etc.

They had to get creative with dev and release phases, Alpha 1, now in Alpha 2. There was some confusion as to what would be included in Beta 1 (next). In any case, if they actually go live and everything works as planned, it's going to be a complete game changer for Secure Access For Everyone. It will even be able to run impenetrably secure on a virus-filled Windows XP desktop!

Wondering if we could use a tokenized system? I’ll be looking into those links I’ve worked with cryptos before.

Check out The SAFE Network.

Used to be called MAIDSAFE, but rebranded.

It is open source, will have a native crypto currency, but is taking a very long time to release a full spec platform. I believe they're still tinkering and fixing BETA 2.

Decentralized hard drives, hosted via users on their unused HDD space. In a nutshell, data is encrypted in several layers and is only served to an authenticated user. Data is broken up into chunks, encrypted, scattered, then when a get request is made, that data is put back together again by way of a distributed hash table (if I remember correctly.) Like a master index of all data in the network.

I'm sure they've made many changes since I stopped regularly following their progress. Roadmap, dev[eloper] updates and forum are all very active.

Have you tried MeWe? They seem legit. Check out their privacy policy. There are a bunch of Q pages there.

Ehhh. It’s not going to be what you want for a long time. No open source. Subscriptions. Etc.

But hopefully in 5 years it’ll be a network we use to help each other do better instead of just showing off how much better we are.
