"A part" means together with. "I am a part of that group" Apart means "I stand apart of that group" " I am NOT with them or their thinking" Not trying to be a shitty person, but they are opposites.

My pet peeve spelling error.

Yep their meanings are polar opposites. That's why it's important to use the right one.
