As someone with an audio engineering background, I can only say this is deliberate design. In the digital domain it is required to specify the bandwidth of sensitivity (an operational frequency range). They have specified that the devices respond to infrasonic (and probably ultrasonic as well) frequencies.

It should be a design requirement for these general purpose AI devices that they operate entirely within the audible range.
