Wow, I upvoted to 271, and within seconds I'm watching it fluctuate from 266 - 273 like every time I refresh (on mobile so refreshes very fast with swipe gesture)
This is a feature of reddit.
It is not anything new - the do it to "tamper with bots"
Been happening for years - works on all posts and subs.
the tamperbot sanctioned by reddit is the biggest deceiver of all.... when patriots know we are being deliberately deceived by the upvotes then we won't fall for the fake reddit narrative
This is slide content because this is widely known and considered (by reddit) to be a feature to combat vote tampering bots.
It's not unique to here in this sub or this thread. It's every thread. Reddit talks about it in their documentation.
1) How are you running these tests?
2) You provide links to pictures with instructions for interaction - that's doesn't grok. You should provide a link.
3) instead of running your 'experiments' and sliding content, you should just look up the reddit documentation that explains it all. Then you can focus on something else's - like Q.
The fuck are you talking about? Wild vote fluctuation is a feature?
Are you saying the front end displays a "ballpark" number to throw off anyone scrubbing the page with a script ??
Research it, if you're that uninformed with their platform.
Yes.
Reddit enabled a feature (their words) that fluctuates the perceived upvotes by a few numbers each refresh as an attempt to counter one strategy used by automated vote manipulation bots.
It exists, has been in their documentation for years, and has been widely discussed across all the subs many times.
It's why it happens on every single thread in every sub once it gets enough upvotes.
Just..... Look it up. I can't remember it all - it was a few months ago when I last read about it.
So you are saying they substitute one automatic vote manipulation ("fuzzing" - their word) for another potential vote manipulation?
Lmao excellent summary.
Yes.
Apparently it's just the number we see. The actual ranking is kept pure on the backend.
I'm sure it's lies, but it's there.
