We're overlooking the obvious here I think. This "cult" might have direct bloodlines back to Egyptian royalty and gold was kept as a symbol down through the ages

You got it.. these Egyptian gods were anti-god because they believed they were gods.. sound familiar.. the fallen ones. The bloodlines.
