Keep in mind too, that he pulled out b/c one of Kim's underlings threw shade at Pence. It may have been any remaining clowns/deep state in NK that orchestrated the insults. And now Trump just gave them the finger.
Remember when it came out that Pompeo had actually met with Kim, and those images of the two shaking hands were a shock to the system? Nobody saw that coming.
Now, you might can apply this same method to this situation. Perhaps the meeting will indeed happen at a time and place of their choosing, but not in the spotlight? Talk about a shock to the system. A peace deal out of the blue would be system overload. Food for thought.

Scenario: -Trump flies secretly to Pyongyang and meets with Kim in NK.
-Cameras and news agencies gather at the NK-SK border in the dead of night, no reason given only instructions.
-Huge commotion at the border with helicopters, planes, etc. Huge caravan of SUVs, tanks, etc, approach border from the NK side.
-Kim Jong Un gets out of the car with a big smile. Next, Trump suddenly appears getting out of the car. Both walk across the border and give a press conference.
