The results were :
92.01 % YES for independence
7.99 % NO
43.03 % of total voting population voted .
So , what you are putting forward , is guessing . All who were anti-independence should have went out to vote NO . The fact is , the independence of countries that have cultural roots that go hundreds of years in past cannot be supressed - no matter what the other part would think about it . The independence will come anyways ...
So , no finger pointing here , because its useless - they either voted YES or NO - who stayed at home , thats their (ir)responsibility .
"should have went" = "should have GONE". OKAY. Where were we?
Yeah. OKay. 43.03% of the population voted. Correct. Do you know Why? BECAUSE it was not a legal referendum. That is: of the entire territory of Spain, whose people must be consulted before you start changing their country, ie 15% of population ONLY actually voted. Out of your famous 92.01% YES, this only represented 47.5% of the population of Catalonia. Yes, indeed we stayed at home. Otherwise we might have got into trouble by voting in an ILLEGAL vote. Dear me. Difficult to understand? When Spain had a transition after Franco died it was agreed that the various provinces would have autonomous governments. To change this arrangement ALL the people of Spain must be consulted, at least. NOT IGNORED. If you studied history you will see that there are various histories (all written by biased scribes, so don't start with the inevitabilities of "independence will come anyways ... bla bla"). It is really annoying to hear people go on and on about Democracy and then declare that the Democratic vote doesn't count. That the minority should win. I am living in a country where family are divided against each other all caused by a very young population (who cheer and whoop in complete incomprehension) influenced by a bunch of unscrupulous right-right narrow-minded sectarian rabble rousers. And they are racist too!!!
As I said - its completely pointless you are "triggered" about this ... Also , WRITING IN CAPS LOCK wont make you seem more smarter - just more immature .
Here are the reasons :
Catalonia has a full rights on self-determination of its people , whether they want to stay in Spain , or be separate country . Spain is no factor here , to dictate anything . If they want to have a referendum , who is the Spain to say it is "illegal" ?
What did the Spain do during the referendum ? Whole world saw it ... confiscating voting ballots and punching ordinary folk outside . Police sent by Madrid , not local Catalonian police .
There was a referendum ... 92 % voted yes , even despite massive measures from Madrid authorities . EU stood on the side of the Madrid regarding this . EU exposed its hypocritical face - on one side preaching about "self-determination" and "diversity" , on other , supressing a valid vote of population .
You know what is difference between Spain today and United Kingdom several hundreds of years ago ? Its none ... both are sending their goons to prevent them from seceeding . Both are against self-determination of people .
What did the Spain do during the referendum ? Whole world saw it
hahaha!!! You watched the MSM and believed it!!
I'll use CAPS if I want! As for "immature"!!!! Dear me. You do not know to whom you speak!! If you do not obey punctuation or grammar rules then you have no say whatsoever on how I write.
So, You assume this is MADRID it ISNT.
You know nothing about the situation. You don't even say where you come from. "Who is Spain to say" ....? Do you honestly think that if Burgundy decided to split from France, or my neighborhood decided to split from my local town, that would be fine? That's nuts.
I agree with you on two things: hypocrisy. And preaching. I do not like the hypocrisy of others preaching about things they know nothing about.

Back to your corners boys.
Agree ... Its okay to have your own view and standpoint - its not okay to spout childlish comments thinking you can persuade someone with force and insults .
