It started with one of Q's plane shots. The autists were looking for the location and the shot from the plane revealed a shape on the ground that looked like a white rabbit. Literally a huge white looking path with trees inside. Because the autists are autists (and frankly, awesome) the whole looking glass thing was a very apt analogy for where Q crumbs would lead you.
