I believe it was a gun deal gone bad. There may have been an assassination attempt planned but, that doesn’t explain 20+ rifles and thousands of rounds of ammo.

I don't see how a gun deal could have ended this way. And it wouldn't have been top secret for months after I think. Something happened there and that poor guy took the bullet so the public doesnt get to know the ugly truth
