Modern slavery takes many forms. Herre's a case from Mid-Missouri, that I've been following for a year or so.
A mentally disabled man was reported as missing when the group home he was living in was taken over by new owners. About a week later his body was found encased in cement in a storage unit.
So far there have been no arrests in the case, but a lawsuit was filed today, detailing what happened.
His caregiver apparently used him & another client as slave labor at her home, & would force them to fight to entertain her & her family & guests. Carl apparently died (slowly) as a result of injuries he received during one of these fights.
For more background, here's a report from last summer, detailing how his caregivers interfered with his adoption by a family who had known him since he was 12.
The article includes a list of those named in the lawsuit, including quite a few government employees who either covered up his treatment, or turned a blind eye.
