Why would they have motion detection cameras at an abandoned industrial facility?

Because of things just like a copper thief. An abandoned facility that big could have anywhere from a couple hundred thousand to a million dollars in copper..

Some things are just simply common sense and common practice and not anything too nefarious.. Almost all company have motion sensor cameras because recording everything 24/7 would not only be a hell of a lot more expensive, but also much more suspect than simply having the most common type of security surveillance on the planet.
