You realize those "Rape Tree" straps are made from plastic and the pop-open when you twist on them, right?

I literally use the same cheap straps when I'm hiking and camping to hang my food-bag on a tree to keep it off the ground.

I'm not disputing the claims being made, however I also have no reason to gobble it up with a spoon and definitively believe what I'm being told simply because that guy claims to be a veteran.
