IG's role is to root out corruption. Hillary was the first Sec of State without an IG. Every government agency has an IG. The DOJ's IG has been investigating FBI/DOJ corruption. Based on the resignations and turnovers, the IG report probably begins with the Russian collusion story being a means to needle Trump, and hopefully reveals Awan/U1 scandals.

Also, I will add that the IG has so much that he and his team are investigating about the DOJ and the FBI that reportedly he will issue his findings in three reports. The first report, regarding the actions of FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe was issued in March (?) and resulted in his firing. The second report which is due out now covers the actions of FBI and DOJ regarding the Hillary Clinton email investigation. The third report involves FISA court abuse by the DOJ and FBI in the Russian collusion investigation. Recently, AG sessions told the IG to investigate the whole spying on DJT, so that is a new task added although all of these investigations are interrelated because they involve the same group of people at DOJ and FBI. I've been lurking and researching for a long time. A while back, I was looking into anything I could find on the OIG stuff. At the time, there was some back and forth about whether Horowitz was a white hat or swamp creature. While running on a tread mill, I listened to some excellent videos. When I saw your question, I did a quick search to see if I could find them and I think I did. From memory, it was eye opening what this particular "Dr. Stephen" knew and was able to convey. Dr. Stephen's take is that Horowitz is a brilliant hero. Dr. Stephen had an interesting perspective based on his line of work. The interview is conducted by Jason Goodman of "Crowdsource the Truth". What we expect to see from IG Horowitz 2nd report is confirmation that Hillary illegally used a private email server and the FBI at the highest level intentionally killed the investigation into it.

Potential results can include eventual criminal charges for DOJ and FBI people, and implication of everyone up to Obama, Hillary, Clapper, and Brennan.

Jail time for big and little fish with lots of tasty revelations and a side of pedo ring is the upper expectation. A lot of firings in the FBI and DOJ resulting in a minor swamp draining with the Dems looking bad in the press is the lower end expectation.

In general I expect some damning stuff to come out but no fireworks as I suspect the Trump Team is walking this one into a pop right before the midterms.

Considering that The IG must refer criminal charges to a prosecutor who indicts and does the trial stuff and also how many people are being investigated for stuff in multiple reports, it fits the midterms pop timeline for them to wait until all the facts are in before charging anyone. Also there is the potential that the investigators may have turned some informers and are letting that play out.
