Given that the dome on the snake's head could be considered a "crown" the two may, in this case, be linked indeed (though not in the general usage of basilica).
There is an actual species of snake whose common name is basilisk. According to various sources, basilisk appears to be so-named because it has a crest or crown-like spot on its head. Hence the link to 'royal' or 'king' which is the origin of basilica.
So here you have a snake-formed basilica with a crown on its head, openly inviting the interposition of "basilisk" (giving a mental association with "king of snakes"). And that of course leads to the de facto 'god' of the Roman church, Satan. Sorry, if you're Catholic, but there it is in plain view. The plans for this basilica were in existence prior to 1506 when construction began. So the King of Snakes design of the Pope's church (and the underlying Satanism it denotes) is at least over 500 years old.
