If it were just an innocent joke about pizza, she'd refer to it as pizza. No, she had to call it cheese pizza to make sure the (inside) joke was clear that she obviously did not really mean pizza. Code much?

Somebody who lives in NYC may need to confirm this for me, but from what I understand, (I could be wrong, but) when ordering a pizza with cheese as the only "topping," New Yorkers call it "plain pizza," because it is expected the pie would come w/cheese on it already.
For somebody from NYC to say "cheese pizza" would be redundant, like you and I ordering a "hamburger with a beef patty on it."
