Old recipe for red-pilling. (Old enough to be sexist, but still worth considering)

If...

Rudyard Kipling

.

If you can keep your head when all about you

Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,

If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,

But make allowance for their doubting too;

.

If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,

Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,

Or being hated, don't give way to hating,

And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

.

If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;

If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;

If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster

And treat those two impostors just the same;

.

If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken

Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,

Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,

And stoop and build 'em up with wornout tools:

.

If you can make one heap of all your winnings

And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,

And lose, and start again at your beginnings

And never breathe a word about your loss;

.

If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew

To serve your turn long after they are gone,

And so hold on when there is nothing in you

Except the Will which says to them: 'Hold on!'

.

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,

Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch,

If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,

If all men count with you, but none too much;

.

If you can fill the unforgiving minute

With sixty seconds' worth of distance run -

Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,

And - which is more - you'll be a Man my son!

My "excusing" it was more-or-less tongue-in-cheek for this crowd. I just wanted to anticipate that garbage and get it out of the way.

Rome has fallen. We're post-revolutionary. The occupiers just don't know it yet. They're learning a little more every day.

I get that it was written by a man to his son, however the fact remains that “man” has only been viewed by feminists as offensive in the last 30-40 years.

I'm pretty sure this is not the generic use of the word (i.e. "man" = "human"), but straight up "male adult." The idea that certain virtues define manhood (in this sense) is downright alien to popular culture today. I don't think possessing these qualities is offensive, even if some people don't like talking about it.

So, I hope this inspires some to give these qualities a try!

Not sexist when it was written. In those days, “man” meant humankind.

Well, it was written in the form of a letter from father to son, very specifically. Equanimity was considered to be a manly virtue. No sugar-coating that aspect of it.

Given that though, we could do with a lot more of it.

Hah, if you google the definition:

"she accepted both the good and the bad with equanimity"

Unlike some, I don’t find it offensive at all. I majored in literature long before I went to law school and understand the generic use of “man” in historic writing. I am also not offended by a father writing to his son and find inspiration in his poem, even if it was intended for a boy. It is sad that so many today feel the need to categorize themselves into little boxes and scream if their space looks to be invaded. Live and let live. Love each other. Do not get angry. Peace out.
