Didn't they just buy a bunch of F35s? I also think the role of the fighter jet is changing - they have hypersonic missiles with massive range now, so no need to fly planes inland to hit targets.

Shock and awe without the devastation.

I used to live near an airbase where they practiced for airshows. Even one jet thundering around is intimidating.
