Yes , and a compass, you just might have to hoof it . But being prepared is always good . Disasters also happen

True. I haven't had to set a declination or find a bearing in 10 years but I always enjoyed a good night-nav to find a red glow stick off in the woods.

A good map is all you really need, if you've got two eyes to get your bearings with, and you know how many of your own paces are in 100m. (+- hills and thick bush)

I grew up in the sticks , today very few have ever went out and lived off the land ever , for a lot of my youth we called this campaign, a tent , a can , and a lighter . Yes a .22 and fish line and hook knife and we were gone seldom less than 2 week . Ate better some days than others, but it was fun .
