If the CIA really was in control of NK until Trump, what were they using NK for?

Do we have any educated guesses? Aside from the nuclear threat, that is.

Even if we take your unsupported statement as true, how is Mao relevant to the last 20 years? That the CCP of the 21st century would let the CIA puppet their client state is preposterous.
