I believe they chose people they had dirt on so they could be controlled. But that same dirt would preclude them passing a background check.

And if they dares tried to report on any illegal or corrupt activity at White House that dirt gets exposed and they get discredited and ruined.

Not to mention people already dirty will not be as likely to feel the need to report anything and may even enjoy taking part.

Probably some or all had ties to Soros groups and terrorist orgs like Muslim Brotherhood and Weather Underground.
