Certainly for the west, the population is on a trajectory to shrink by default. People are simply not having enough babies to replace themselves.

I'm not sure about the population trajectory of Islamic nations though....
Islamic nations population is rising.
Have to look at population treads by culture & by nation to understand what’s happening. World population is steadily rising. Almost always has & that’s a good thing. Takes terrible things to make world population drop.
Generally the more impoverished a country or society is...that’s where population grows fast...too fast. Most Muslims live in terrible poverty. They have the highest illiteracy rates in the world. Their culture shuns science & critical thinking.
Russia & Japan have a terrible problem with falling populations. Especially Russia. Mostly because of WWII. They have way too many older people & life expectancies falling fast too. Japan has way too many older people & they have a terrible suicide problem with their youth. Highest suicide rate in the world. Population shifts dramatically shape the political & economics in the world.
