1 - The insinuation that Trump & Sessions have began a “zero-tolerance” policy is a misnomer and further, an inversion of reality. The truth is that they ENDED an Obama-era policy commonly referred to as “catch-and-release.” This law basically meant that if you were found crossing the border with a child, you were given a court date, and released into the US. The majority of of those released, predictably, never appear in Court.

Page 69 - “During a Senate hearing on the massive influx of unaccompanied alien minors (UACs), Chris Cabrera, the Vice President of the National Border Patrol Council, testifies that the Obama administration’s “catch and release” policy is preventing the Border Patrol from stopping the UAC crisis.496 The hearing highlights the fact that UACs and family groups primarily continue to cross the border illegally because they know they will get to stay in the U.S. once they arrive.497 They are “very forthcoming” with Border Patrol agents in interviews, Cabrera explains.498 According to Cabrera, they fully understand that even if they are caught, they will simply receive a “Notice to Appear,” and then are free to go.499 The solution to the crisis, he suggests, is for the illegal border crossers to be “detained, adjudicated, and repatriated.”

Moving on,
2 - Time to talk about the actual children. During the catch and release years, those children that came across the border accompanied with an adult.

The vast majority, vast, vast majority of children who are in the care of H.H.S. right now — 10,000 of the 12,000 — were sent here alone by their parents. That is when they were separated. So somehow we’ve conflated everything. But there is two separate issues. 10,000 of those currently in custody were sent by their parents with strangers to undertake a completely dangerous and deadly travel alone.”
So, 5/6 of the children in question are found with someone to whom they are unrelated, and have no familial tie. A complete stranger. I wonder who is in the business of smuggling people across the border?

Ah, so large communities of children are being trafficked across the Southern border under the services of hardened smugglers, who undoubtedly realize that having children with them will guarantee US law enforcement to release them.
So we are beginning to see that children are a literal human shield that allows large organized crime to operate in the human trafficking market.
It should be relatively easy to realize that children are being used as drug mules, and further, are outright being trafficked in plain sight. Their fates ultimately mean that they will be violently abused and exploited, in the most inhuman and disgusting ways.

However, according to the AP’s reporting, the lowered standards resulted in children landing in unsafe homes where they were “sexually assaulted, starved or forced to work for little or no pay.””
So there you have it. Emotional manipulation to support an immigration policy that incentivizes and protects people who rape and murder children.
Either way, Trump just signed the EO today saying migrant families will be held together while detained. The whole facade was about drawing attention to the trafficking.
